Total Crane Services were using an Access database system that kept records of safety certificates against cranes and lifting equipment; this database and was having a few problems.
After analysing the existing system I decided the best way forward would be to streamline the way the existing system interfaced with a website to allow clients to view safety certificates.
This resulted in the removal of many lines of redundant programming code from the old system, and developing a new online system that would present the certificates if a clear and easily navigable manner.
The old system now has a single button to update the website (this used to be a multi stage process where the user and to manipulate files into certain directories and was prone to mistakes)
Clicking the button to update the website creates a snapshot of the required data and then sends this to the website using FTP in the background.
The website has a clean interface, a user logon page shown below
Once logged on the user is presented with their certificates in a tabular form, this data can be easily sorted and searched, and by clicking a button next to each certificate will produce a certificate ready for viewing or printing.
